Pondering Buying a Long-Neglected Cherokee 140
Hi, Phil here, just joined minutes ago and am going to jump right in for some advice. I am looking at buying a long neglected PA-28-140. See the following: What would you offer, if anything, for a 1966 PA-28-140 in the following condition: TTAF 2883.0, TSMOH 553.0, Lyco 150 hp Last flown in 2008, sitting outside since then… -
Seeking Advice for Purchasing PA-32RT
Hello everyone, I am purchasing my first GA aircraft. A Piper PA-32RT tail #300007. I plan on doing my pre-buy inspection on Tuesday. I have run a complete aircraft history report, title search, and have reviewed all the logs. Besides the good but generic advice you can find on AOPA, what other things should I be looking… -
New Rebuilt Factory Engine Issues
First some history, early last year my original engine had chewed up the lifter and cam. Decided after much back and forth to go with a factory “0” time rebuild. Engine was received in June of 2020, and the installation and first flight occurred in September. The engine was installed with all new hoses and hardware. The… -
High CHT on O-540
I just purchased a 1979 Piper Dakota. I just had the engine overhauled and have about 30 hours on a overhauled O-540. The CHT on Cylinder #2 and #3 exceed 425 degrees on climb out but settle in at 400 - 410 degrees. All other cylinders are fine. In the Lycoming O-540 manual it says that 435 degrees on high cruise is not to… -
Sourcing old parts
"I am trying to source an engine and nose wheel mount for a Cherokee 160 ( seriel no. #307 ) that has a 160HP B2B engine. So far I have found three Hens teeth, a bag of welders sparks and a considerable quantity of Rocking Horse manure but the engine mount - #63600-28 - ( correct me if I`m wrong ) has up to this point… -
PA28-180 CHTs
SBOOTH, My PA28C-180 runs about the same CHTs as your D? model. I know a guy with a -181 who reports same as well. I lean by best power plus enrich enough to get #3 (my hottest) under 450; usually 100-150 deg ROP depending on power setting. This is pretty much the nature of the beast from what I can tell. Cheers, >MikeL< -

Big oil leak
Today one of my partners and I flew the Navajo to Blairstown, 1N7, to practice instrument approaches and buy cheaper fuel. When we shut down the right engine, we saw a lot of dark smoke coming out of it. When we got out and looked, the right side and bottom of the engine were covered in oil. I can't say enough good about… -
Leaning Feedback and Lessons Learned
Hello All, Well I just fly in from Philly and boy........ You fill in the blanks. The trip overall went very well. Here is what I learned: - Cherokees do NOT like high density altitudes, hot summer days, with full loads. I know - I was SHOCKED! LOL Every airport I departed (and due to the late times I departed) was at 2800… -
LOP Observations in a Saratoga II TC
All, I own a 2005 Saratoga II TC, and I am not affiliated with Advanced Pilots Seminars, or the manufactures of GAMI injectors (ie., this is an unbiased report...). In hopes of prolonging engine life, extending range and better engine monitoring, I recently installed GAMI injectors, and a JPI EDM-700 (so I could monitor…
