New guy with a newly purchased 1966 Cherokee 140

Hello everyone.

I just joined and want to say hello.

I'm very new to Pipers, I cut my teeth back in the late '70s in Cessna's.

Joined the Air Force and flew heavy's for 8 years, and on to the Airlines for 33 years.

Then age 65 hit and retirement.

Now it was time to get back to my roots. I have a good friend with an Archer who is also an instructor. He took on the near impossible task of re-teaching me how to fly SEL again. I really liked how the Archer flew so when it was time to buy a plane I wanted a Piper.

This Cherokee 140 kind of fell into my lap while I was looking. It's at my local airport and I was able to keep in on the same tie down as the previous owner.

I've flown it 75 hours in the 3 1/2 months I've owned it.

Just did the 1st oil change, I upgraded the old TKM radio to a Garmin GTR 205.

Maybe next year I'll look into starting some panel upgrades, maybe not.

TTAF around 6400 and around 630 since overhaul in 2005.

Old school, but that's what I wanted. For now.

After decades of mostly IFR flying it's a joy to just decide to go

for a flight with no real plan or mission.

The plane is tied down at KLWM, Lawrence Muni, 7 minutes from my house.

Looking for a hanger, but they are scarce at LWM.

One glitch is the pilot side fresh air vent pops open with the airflow. Fine in the summer, but now that fall is here its cold. I have it taped closed for now, but it will need to be addressed.

As I've said I'm new to the Cherokee, any tips, tricks, suggestions are welcome.
