Cheyenne II AOA indicator Issue

I have a 1981 Piper Cheyenne II and are having some issues with the Angle of Attack indicator(AOA) Model 861 Cd2, pt no 29316-02.
The issue I am having is that the vane that goes outside does not want to heat up. It seems that the heating element is not working. The body does heat up ok.
I am having difficulties finding an exchange unit or an OH shop.
Any one has any clues?
Thanks

Check for power and ground for the heating elements at the probe, should be in the wiring diagrams for the airplane in the Service Manual.

Have someone with a Parts Base account run the number and see if you find any. Aviall is the main parts distributor for Piper, so I'd try them as well.

  • Hello Scottand Erich:
Did check the power and ground at the probes and the body heats ok but the vane does not. There is current going into the vane but does not heat up.
I found a company in Ohio that has one as removed. Had it tested and works ok. Ithink it might be the only option.
Will have the part looked at in Parts Base again and in the ILS. I will also contact Aviall.
    Thanks for your help!

  • HI Ricky,
Glad to be of service. :) Good luck
