I am in the process of scheduling a pre-buy and annual for a 1977 Cherokee Six. I am requesting advice regarding areas where corrosion may exist. Thanks
Near where the spar bolts to the crossover. Steel bolts... If it ever lived outside, that is where the water collects especially if the drain holes become clogged with something...
Also check the floor wells where the P1/P2 and P5/P6 feet are. Since door seals are not perfect, rain can get in to the fuselage, and has a habit of cumulating on the floor where your feet rest.
Remove the back bulkhead (the hat rack), grab a head lamp/flash light and check behind in the empenage - again, the low point of the plane.
The engine mount is made from tubular steel - verify that this corrosion free. I believe that the original idea was that these tubes were welded shut - and may have been filled with a small amount of oil to prevent corrosion. (This may be incorrect though - relating to the oil....)
