Voice flight system
Troy, New York - January 11, 2012 - VoiceFlight Systems announced today that it has received an FAA Approved Model List (AML) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the VFS101, allowing it to be installed on almost all types of aircraft under 6,000 lbs. maximum take-off weight (MTOW). With this approval the VFS101 may now be installed into hundreds of aircraft models without requiring installers to secure field approval from their local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).
The VFS101 is the first pilot speech recognition system certified by the FAA. It allows pilots to enter waypoints into Garmin GNS 430W and GNS 530W GPS/Nav/Com Systems ten times faster than can be accomplished using the built-in knobs. The system automatically expands Victor Airways, providing further assistance to pilots flying in complex IFR environments. A simple but powerful set of flightplan editing commands allows the pilot to handle in-flight ATC reroutes in seconds while remaining "heads up" in the cockpit.
The VoiceFlight speech recognition engine used by the VFS101 was developed specifically to deliver the exceptional speed and accuracy required in the aircraft cockpit environment. This patented technology is speaker independent, so there is no tedious "enrollment" process required before the system can be used. This independence was thoroughly demonstrated at EAA Airventure (Oshkosh, WI) 2011 and The AOPA Expo 2011 (Hartford, CT). At each of these shows hundreds of visitors from all over the world tried the VFS101 with overwhelming success.
"We have heard from many pilots who were very excited about adding a VFS101 to their airplane, but did not want to deal with the hassle and added cost of securing an FAA field approval from their FSDO" said J. Scott Merritt, founder and president of VoiceFlight. "With this AML that is no longer an issue. Pilots of almost every aircraft under 6,000 lbs. can now have the VFS101 installed in their planes with a minimum of paperwork."
For additional information, including a a 2-minute video demonstration of the VFS101 in action, see the VoiceFlight Systems website (www.voiceflight.com).
The VFS101 is available for immediate installation at a suggested list price of $1,995.
