Flying without the nose faring on a PA32-260

I have a PA32-260 and have the nose faring off. It says in the POH that if you fly without the faring you need to install springs that go from the nose gear to the firewall. I have gotten the springs but there is nothing on the firewall to attach them to and I can not find anything mentioning the part or location of the attach point. Can anyone help me with info on this? My tug hits the nose faring so I want to fly without it.

    The POH is well down the list when it comes to acceptable data for maintenance issues, probably for understandable reasons. It has however given you a hint.
    The Type Certificate Data Sheets are one of the prime sources of info and can be found on the FAA website.

    They often have references to the requirements for flights with the spinner removed etc.
    In this case they do have a note for flights with the nose gear fairing removed.
    The latest revision of A3SO is Rev 32.

    NOTE 5 The Model PA-32-260, S/N 32-1 through 32-1297, and 32-7100001 through 32-7700023, and Model PA-32-300,
    S/N 32-40001 through 32-40974, and 32-7140001 through 32-7740113, require two nose wheel centering
    springs (P/N 67168) installed, if the optional nose wheel fairing or the optional nose and main wheel fairings are
    removed or not installed.
    The Model PA-32-260, S/N 32-7800001 through 32-7800008, and Model PA-32-300, S/N 32-7840001 through
    32-7940290, require rudder centering spring (P/N 37929-2) installed, if the optional nose wheel fairing or the
    optional nose and main wheel fairings are removed or not installed.
    The Model PA-32-260, S/N 32-7800001 through 32-7800008, requires the removal of the nose gear strut fairing
    (P/N 37891) when the nose gear wheel fairing is removed or not installed.

    The IPC listing also shows the spring and with a similar note.
    It would seem all 1971 to 1976 models, at least, are in the Serial Number range given. It appears that the 1978 and 79 models need a different P/N.

    If your aircraft is in the affected range then you will be required to have them fitted and with an appropriate log entry.
    Maybe the IPC can give you some idea of where they are fitted. Fig48 Item 46.

    ...I know of a Cherokee Six that was originally flown without the nose wheel fairing and no springs - flew fine. Then I installed a nose wheel fairing. Oops - did I just say that?!!

    Figure 2-10 in the Cherokee Six/Lance maintenance manual shows the nose wheel springs installed. This is illustrative as it's in the Lubrication part of the manual - but it should be helpful. If this internet upload thingee is working you can see a copy of the page here.
