Rotating beacon replacement

My beacon suddenly sounds like a meat grinder. I'd like to replace it with an LED beacon. Anyone have recommendations (for or against) any particular brand? Is this something I can install and have my A&P sign off on (not that I'm inclined to do it myself).

  • Hi, here's a bunch of them and they're all good. And if you can reach it, you can replace it :)https://www.knots2u.net/categories/aircraft-lighting/strobe-led-beacons.html

  • I'd get rid of the rotating beacon if I can. There is probably an STC involved with the newer type. Will need an IA for the 337 form. I have my annual IA clinic next Thursday and Friday. The most important thing is to get there early before all the FAA guys eat all the donuts!!

  • I'll second Scott's suggestion. I replaced my fat beacon many years ago in my Cherokee 180 and I believe Knot 2U made the new slim fairing to mount a smaller beacon.

In the link above, check out the first unit in the last row. Smaller beacon, less drag.
