which oil filter to buy for my Warrior II?

So, I have someone to do my annual in November, That is a big deal in Virginia because we are very short of A&Ps. He wants me to supply the new oil and oil filter. Well - I got a load of oil from Oshkosh in July, but I need a filter.

So, what is the best oil filter for my Warrior II and who online has the best price?

  • The top two groups for most of my purchases are Knots2U and Aircraft Spruce.

Knots2U at one time offered a POS membership discount which about equaled the shipping cost.

Aircraft Spruce offers free shipping once crossing over their dollar threshold. As the only need at the moment is oil filters, might want to ask around to see if hangar neighbors need any supplies to drive up the overall purchase to get free shipping.

  • Your basic two choices are Champion and Tempest. I usually purchase a case of 6 Tempest filters from Aircraft Spruce at Airventure to save a bit. I have used both brands and switched from Champion to Tempest primarily due to cost, but Tempest is a very well constructed filter and had no reason to switch back. That was years ago. If you are ready for the filter immediately, I could recommend just ordering a Tempest from Aircraft Spruce and you have all year (til next Airventure) to research a strategy, brand, and quantity. Even if you cannot attend AirVenture, you will still be able to get a discount from most vendors during AirVenture week.

  • What Mike said. My two cents, I’ll use either brand depending on price or availability (shortage a few years ago). I’ve used tempest for a long time now.

Open up your cowling. Read the part number and order more, if you want to switch just search for the alternate/equivalent. For example, CH48110-1 is the same as AA48110-2
