PA32 Electric Trim Solenoid
Hi all,
I'm having my mechanic look into an issue with a stiff trim wheel. The electric pitch trim hasn't been working on this plane for some time. My mechanic said it's an issue with the solenoid not activating. Anyone know where this solenoid can be purchased? The old part number was A420-062082-00 and superseded by 70161853. Any other ideas would be great.
Thank you.

IME a stiff pitch trim is usually the result of old, hardened grease in the elevator trim jack screw. I'd have your A&P look into that as well.

Break this problem into 2 parts.
Re: stiff trim wheel
Djspathis has excellent advice. Clean and lube the jack screw in the stabilator. Piper specifies a grease that will work in all temps. Check pulleys and cable tension. When done, the trim wheel should move easily by hand. If not, check the depth of the groove in all the pulleys including the electric trim motor. If the pulleys are worn, the depth of the groove can cause the cable to bind.
Re: Trim solenoid not engaging
Check electrical connections beginning at the solenoid. If the switch is engaged, and no voltage appears at the solenoid, begin tracing the wiring back through the switch, fuses, etc. If voltage is present at the solenoid, then you need to begin searching for the part. If not available in the market (Google is your friend here), then I would begin checking the boneyards. Try Wentworth, Texas Air Salvage, etc.
