I have an issue with my original sliding door holder. The spring steel rod under the track has a break in it. It is not completely broken. Does anyone have knowledge on how to take apart the slid and replacing the spring steel part? Also does anyone have a link to a parts breakdown of the mechanism? Thanks

The door steward is suppossed to keep the door open correct? My new to me 1980 PA28RT doesnt keep it open... could this be what I'm missing?

Use a mirror or your phone to look at the underside of the slide for the wire spring. It puts tension on the slide mechanism.

It could very well be the problem. TmccArcher gave good advice on checking.

You may consider removing the slide from the airplane. It's an easy job. There are only 2 attach points, one on the door frame and one on the bottom of the door.

If there is no tension or friction in the slide and it moves freely, there's a good chance that the spring is broken. It's common. Fortunately it is a serviceable part.
