Camping at Kern Valley Airport (L05)
What fun this was for my son and I for a fly-in camping trip. The campground is just for planes, with a separate tie down area. We were the only ones there for three days. If you choose the SW corner of the camping area, there is a power outlet (bring an extension cord). Walking distance to the Kern River with excellent fishing. A short walk takes you to the airport cafe, where you can also rent a car (old clunker). Total bill for three nights plus rental car was $99. No fuel at airport. The approach in the afternoon (with normal winds) requires you to make a U-Turn in a valley, suggest you fly in about a 1000 ft higher than normal, with a long final. A very quiet airport during the week.
