Component under Battery solenoid

I finally got up the steam and courage to remove the rear seats and deck in my '71' cherokee.Minor corrsion was found so I removed the battery box and in doing so removed the solenoid attached to the side of the box and under it, on a separate brackett, found a ceramic resistor?. (looks like a resistor to me) The ground leg on it is rusted through and looks like it has for some time. Does anybody know what this is? everything seems to be working fine. any input would be helpful. I am getting ready for an Airtex interior to show up and have decided to install it myself.

    There is a resistor and a diode. You can buy them separately from Muncie aviation for a reasonable price and solder yourself (I forgot exactly how much) or they can sell you the unit already soldered for a rediculous amount like any other Piper part.
