Fuel tank question

I have read through the archives and although there as been much discussion on sb1006, screws and rivet replacement I did not see anything about the sump drain plate itself. Does anyone have any experience replacing the drain plate itself. Ours developed a crack. This is located on the underside of the tank, the fuel sample drain screws into it. Thanks

  • Those are usually serviced by a tank repair station. The tank needs to be apart to rivet a new one on. I have had good luck with Bruce at Hartwig. It is not cheap to have a tank serviced...

  • Thanks, I was afraid of that.
  • Just had the exact same experience. Somebody over-tightened the quick drain apparently and it cracked the boss (I think that's what it's called). Had to pull the tank and ship it off. Three weeks down time and $1k plus. Gives you an opportunity to reflect and replace fuel lines, vent line connectors, and the cost of tea in China. Another aviation experience.
