Old Airframe w/ New Avionics or Newer Airframe w/ original everything

I'm looking at purchasing a plane later this year and have 60k or so for this endeavor. Based on family size and planned use of the plane, I want either a Cherokee 180 or 235 or Archer/Dakota. I can get an older mid 60's airframe in either of these pretty well updated in my range, or buy a late 70's model with mostly or all original equipment. Which way would you guys lean in this equation.

    I would look for an Archer III. They started in 1996. Get one with GPS and AP. Nice plane and good value.
