Advice on a trip to Monument Valley, Utah.

Planning a trip to Monument Valley soon and any advice appreciated. I am kind of "camped-out" from this summer and would prefer a hotel. By the time you put 2 adults in a Cherokee and all the gear, it gets tight. I know that the hotels inside Monument Valley are pricey.
I have an exceptional Cherokee 180 and will be taking a friend. Originally, we were talking about late Sept. but I think the weather gods prefer late August or earlier.
