Replacement Clock

I just had my Mitchell Clock fail in my '77 Piper Archer. Can I just purchase a Mitchell FCC PMA approved clock to replace my failed clock? Its a simple four screws and two plugs on the back and it's done.
If I can replace the clock what do I need to document in my aircraft log book?

    AFAIK replacing instruments isn't on the list of preventive maintenance items allowed for owner/operators. You'll probably need an A&P signoff on the work.
