Aircraft Engine Specialist/KCHD

Submitted inputs and have received a number of bids from the top Lycoming engine overhauler's in the country. Also, received a very good bid from a shop here in the Phoenix area (Aircraft Engine Specialist) of Chandler, AZ. Overhaul to New Limits, ECI/Titan Nickel Cyl, New Electroair Ign Sys. New Set of Fine Wire Plugs, SkyTec Starter, New Set of Type D Hose.$21,180.00, 1yr Warranty. Would like to know if anyone has had any work completed by this company and if so any warranty issues. Like the idea of staying local is possible.

  • What engine?
  • Engine is the Lyc. 0-360 A4A / 1970 Cherokee 180
  • mini_23122012-0541_DSC00333.JPGmini_DSC00340a.JPGI just did one myself for a buddy. I recall the parts and other machine work were about 10K. You are talking about new cylinders, where we used first run OH cylinders with new pistons (which saved about $1500). Whatever you do. Trust me on this. Get a new CAM. Do not allow an OH reground CAM. They are not likely to make TBO. He has about 120 hours on the one I did and all good so far.
  • oops.....Of the three camshafts on the market which one would you recommend.

  • ECI sells a kit that is nice. Reground followers are fine... reground CAMs I do not suggest.
