Flat Plate Fuel Selector AD consideration

I received the attached notice from the FAA requesting feedback from owners regarding position errors when moving the fuel selector switch. There is a list of serial numbers but they want all owners to respond if they have had issues.
The Airworthiness Concern Sheet was released on 1 Aug 2019. Looks to me like older model years are most affected and PA-28-140/-150/-160/-180 Cherokee, PA-28R-180/-200 Cherokee Arrow with Serial Numbers: 28-20000 to 28-26946, 28-01 to 28-5859, 28R-30000 to 28R-31270, 28R-35001 to 28R-35820.

  • My Arrow S/N falls within the range identified but I have never had any issues or concerns about the operation of that valve. But I haven't received that FAA letter either...another "tempest in a tea pot".

  • May be, but it is a tempest which can cost you money. Were I in the range, I would certainly respond that I had owned the plane Y years and never had an issue. If they get enough of those and little to no problem reports it may avoid an unnecessary AD.

  • I intend to do that when I am notified or if I don't get a notification soon! There was something similar a while back about a screw in the "improved" selector plate that could back out and keep the selector from moving. So older is better in that case!!
