What is the missing fixture?

I have a 1979 Warrior II. There is a 1.5 inch hole in the left side panel next to the left yoke above the armrest, 3-4 inches under the window when I bought the aircraft. It was covered by a patch. Does anyone have any idea what was there that was removed? Thanks very much.

    That would be 2.25 inch hole, not 1.5 inches...
