NPRM - AD coming on turbocharged engines.
On July 27, 2022, the FAA issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) of a proposed Airworthiness Directive (AD) for turbocharged, reciprocating engine-powered airplanes and helicopters and turbocharged, reciprocating engines with a spot-welded, multi-segment v-band coupling installed at the tailpipe to the turbocharger exhaust housing flange. This proposed AD was prompted by multiple failures of spot-welded, multi-segment exhaust tailpipe v-band couplings. This proposed AD would establish a 500 hour life limit of this v-band coupling and require repetitive inspections.
This email is an effort to afford interested parties an equal opportunity to review and comment on this proposed AD by November 4, 2022. Comment submission is voluntary. The most helpful comments are specific, provide rationale, and include supporting data. You may examine this NPRM, ask questions, and provide comments at: https://www.regulations.gov/document/FAA-2022-0891-0001 (or go to https://www.regulations.gov and then search for Docket No. FAA-2022-0891).
