Ben, Piper used to provided engineering services for supporting STC's and structural repairs not in the manual
For example, if you were building an under wing camera system on a gimbal you could have completed the engineering work for the mount to the wing, contracted Piper to review and they would provide engineering feedback on suitability to support your STC application. Now, you are on your own and good luck!
The other big impact here is structural damage beyond what is an approved repair in the main manual. Previously you could work with Piper to develop a customized repair. Now you are on your own... For most of the piper line this is not a big impact. If the hanger door crunches the wing you are more likely to replace vs repair anyways. Typical damage like reskinning control surfaces, etc is covered in the maint manual.
