DAKOTA TIPS WANTED

I AM CONSIDERING A 79 DAKOTA FOR PURCHASE. PLEASE GIVE ME ANY THOUGHTS YOU MAY HAVE AS WELL TIPS ON THINGS TO BE WORRIED ABOUT.

  • Dave, head over to Aviation Consumer for some good analysis and comparisons. Older archives here may have some stories. From a MX standpoint, pretty solid aircraft/eng combo. If it has fiberglass tip tanks, make sure they are in top condition,, repairs can be almost impossible. Other than that, pretty much overstuffed cherokee, !

  • First, corrosion, especially if the plane has lived near an ocean. This is a biggy, ask my how I know. Or ask my checkbook how I know, lol. Second, engine and prop condition. Those are the most expensive and lead-time intensive areas. Avionics are expensive and on an older plane you're probably going to redo some of them so they aren't as important. However, if you're expecting the avionics to last a long time then test each one thoroughly.
