engine monitor installation

I have a 1967 PA28R-180 Arrow I plan to install an Electronics International engine monitor on soon. I am wondering if anyone here has done the same and have any tricks they learned that might make it easier. I don't believe the brand of monitor really matters, just wondering if you've done something similar and learned anything the hard way you might like to share! 😁

Thanks!

  • The instructions that come with any of the engine monitor kits are top notch. There are no mysteries of putting it in an arrow. You and your mechanic should not have any trouble doing an install in a day or two. Carl

  • Things to think about before hand is where you will place the modules on the cold side of the firewall. You will have an engine data concentrator (EDC), manifold pressure transducer, and if maintaining your existing fuel senders a resistive fuel level module. You'll also need to mount your amps shunt.

Aside from locating those items, an EI install is as easy as Carl said. I'm putting one in my Arrow IV at the moment.

  • Consider placement of the monitor display as close to eye level as possible. Placement lower on the panel can make reading the numbers more challenging.

  • I did this same engine monitor. It was fairly straight forward. I did have to get 2 new fuel hoses made to fit the fuel transducer in the correct place. All the boxes were mounted on the right sidewall by the copilot knee under the panel.

  • It was a time consuming process to drain all the tanks and calibrate the fuel quantity. I did not install new electronic fuel senders. I used the original ones.
