Oil Temperature Arrow 3 turbo 1977
Hello,
We have a Arrow 3 turbo 1977 and we live in Province of Quebec in Canada. Winter is quite cold here and despite winter kit installed on 2/3 of the air intake, the engine temperature is still bellow 180. There is sigh of water accumulation in the bleeder
I tried last week to occlude half of the last 1/3 of the air intake ( temperature was -5C at 5000 feet and engine temperature was still just below180. And it was not so cold outside.....
Are any of you dealing with similar cool oil temperature?
Are we to expect these low oil temps even in the summer?
As we are relatively new owners, we are not accustomed with the Arrow's oil temperature behavior.
Thank you,
Daniel

I assume you mean the oil cooler, not air inlet. I would completely block the oil cooler off. Down here in the southern states (Tennessee) it doesn't get cold enough to cover the whole thing but I know people up north that completely cover the oil cooler. Give that a try. Might look into getting the vernatherm spring replaced too. It might be putting too much oil through cooler.

Daniel, before you get too carried away you should check the accuracy of the temp sender when you have a chance. Also they do make a baffle for the aft mounted oil cooler. ( Tsio360 tcm). There was a previous thread on here within the last year if you can find it using search.
In cases like this you want to make sure your indication system is correct before you get into any kind of mechanical issues. Carl
Also a check of the cooler bypass valve / vernatherm. As Kyle mentioned. Might be worthwhile the maintenance manual does give range of the valve movement.
I'll take a stab and think that you're using Philips oil but using the lightest oil available in the winter may help you gain some degrees back.
As a aside make sure you have good grounding between the engine and the airframe as that could affect electrical indications.
