Nose Gear SB for Certain PA-28R, 32R, 44 & 46 Models

SUBJECT: NOSE GEAR FORGING INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT
MODELS AFFECTED: SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED:
PA-28R-201 Arrow III 2844128 and 2844129
PA-32R-301 Saratoga II HP 3246237 through 3246243
PA-32R-301T Saratoga II TC 3257415 through 3257440
PA-44-180 Seminole 4496221 through 4496229
PA-46-350P Mirage 4636375 through 4636393
PA-46-500TP Meridian 4697244 through 4697272
COMPLIANCE TIME: To coincide with next regularly scheduled maintenance event, but not to exceed
the next one hundred (100) hours time in service.
APPROVAL: The technical content of this Service Bulletin has been shown to comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and is FAA approved.
PURPOSE: It has been discovered that cracks may exist in a limited number of Nose Landing Gear Strut Assemblies, due to an error in the forging process, which has been isolated to a specific batch of forgings. The affected batch of Nose Landing Gear Strut Assemblies were supplied as original equipment on the aircraft listed, as well as supplied recently to the field as service replacement parts.
The existence of a crack in the area identified in Figure 1 will result in a reduction in service life of the Nose Landing Gear Strut Assembly.
This Service Bulletin provides for the mandatory inspection (and if necessary, replacement) of the Nose Landing Gear Strut Assembly.
