AOPA PARTNERS WITH THE FLORIDA AIR MUSEUM TO BRING SMITHSONIAN TRAVELING EXHIBIT TO LAKELAND

SUN `N FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, FL – The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has partnered with the Florida Air Museum at Sun ’n Fun to bring the Smithsonian traveling exhibit, “At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Looks at Cockpits” to Lakeland. The exhibit offers visitors a unique perspective of cockpits from some of the world’s most impressive air and spacecraft. “At the Controls” will open at the Florida Air Museum at Sun ’n Fun on September 29 and will remain on view through November 25.

Special educational activities for educators are planned throughout the exhibit, with a special educator’s night scheduled for Thursday, October 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. AOPA will provide information and materials from its “PATH to Aviation, Pilot and Teacher Handbook” series that helps connect aviation to every day classroom topics like math, science, language and history, as well as introduce students to career options in the cockpit and throughout the aviation industry (more info at www.aopa.org/path). Educators who attend will also have the opportunity to “fly” using the Florida Air Museum’s Microsoft Flight Simulators, register for a special “At the Controls” teacher’s workshop presented by Florida Air Museum education staff, and enter to win door prizes including a ride in Sun ’n Fun’s 1941 Stearman biplane, free student museum admissions and classroom transportation grants.
