Can you tell me how you ordered this from Piper? I cannot find any info on it, and I need an AFM (VB-138) for my plane S/N 28-212 (1961 PA-28-150) that was converted to a 180 with a 0-360-A2A done by Piper in 1966.
I just installed a new glass panel, and they can't find this doc.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Recently dealt with this myself. Piper dealers can place the order for you. You will need to actually pick up the phone and call someone on this one… the internet hasn’t found the legacy AFM archives.
They’ll take down your info, place the order with Piper and it’ll show up in a few weeks.
I used Des Moines flying service, but if you have a local dealer you can work with them as well.
FYI- what you’ll get are photo copies of an ORIGINAL 1960’s AFM pages (with your serial stamped) “bound” in a 3-hole folder you could buy from Staples.
It looks like an expensive middle school book report.
I went through a similar exercise 15 years ago because I discovered when my plane was built, Piper sent it out the door with the wrong POH. There are very subtle differences between the AFM and POH. In almost 30 years, none of the previous owners caught the fact that the plane had the wrong manual.
I called Piper directly. During our discussion, I made it clear that replacing the POH with the correct serial specific version was their responsibility since they put the wrong one in the plane back in 1978.
I lost that battle and lightened my wallet by $300. On the upside, my plane now has the correct manual.
