uAvionix has expanded the capabilities of its AV-30-C retrofit flight instrument, giving certified aircraft owners new connectivity with ForeFlight through a free software update (version 3.2.1). The update brings features that were previously limited to experimental aircraft into the certified fleet, adding meaningful capability for pilots flying lighter, budget-conscious panels.

With the update, pilots can build a flight plan in ForeFlight on an iPad or iPhone while away from the airplane and then wirelessly sync it to the AV-30-C in the cockpit. Once connected, the AV-30 can display the route and, when paired with compatible autopilots, fly the ForeFlight-defined course using GPS steering and waypoint anticipation. Changes made to the flight plan in flight are also reflected instantly on the instrument.

The integration requires uAvionix’s AV-Link Wi-Fi bridge, which acts as the wireless hub between ForeFlight and the panel. Additional hardware may be needed depending on the aircraft’s autopilot, particularly for legacy analog systems. The update also includes expanded traffic symbology, heading bug improvements, and builds on earlier enhancements like wind display and flight plan visualization.

Overall, the ForeFlight integration makes the AV-30-C a compelling option for VFR and lightly equipped IFR aircraft, offering modern EFB-to-panel connectivity and autopilot guidance at a fraction of the cost of full glass-panel upgrades.
