April 1, 2021 – The FAA issued a special airworthiness information bulletin this week that applies to owners of several PA-28 and PA-32 models complying with AD 2020-26-16.
The AD requires replacement of four wing spar attach bolts after eddy current inspection of the bolt holes. These bolts are installed in conjunction with specially designed washers. Piper Aircraft informed the FAA that recent shipments included incorrectly manufactured washers that do not included the rounded edges required for proper clearance between the washer and wing spar.
The FAA is asking owners to verify the washers include that rounded edge as the part number alone will not be enough to verify.
