The FAA has issued its final rule on an AD affecting PA-28 and PA-32 models. The AD was originally prompted by reports of corrosion on the main wing spar in areas that were not easily accessed. The AD will require inspection of these areas and corrective action.
If corrosion is found, it must be removed. If the removal of corrosion allows the component to meet or exceed the required thickness in accordance with Piper Service Bulletin 1304A, the aircraft may be returned to flight following application of corrosion preventative compound. If the component does not meet the minimum thickness, the component must be repaired in accordance with an approved method.
The AD goes into effect on December 28, 2020. Download the AD and the Piper Service bulletin for more information.
